I’m very tired. Abnormally tired. I think it’s because for the past two nights, I’ve been up late working on a policy document for SRC. But now I’m done – thankfully – and I fully intend on going to sleep very early tonight! As a treat to myself for my tiredness, I’m drinking hot tea w/ sugar instead of Splenda. It’s soo good!

It’s Valentine’s Day and doesn’t seem like it. I told Shel I feel lonely, but can’t quite put my finger on why. It’s weird. I’m just all-around weird today. Tired, lonely. Blah. Per my request, Shel and I are ordering a pizza tonight, laying on the couch and renting a movie. Although seemingly uneventful, it sounds perfect to me. Well, it’ll either be pizza, Chinese or Boston Market. I could go for some comfort food tonight!

So, what else is going on? Hmm… The turmoil at work is starting to die down, thankfully. Last week was a total bust. Too much drama. Last night before working on the policy document, I went out to dinner w/ some out-of-town coworkers. This is two weeks in a row that I’ve had a girls’ night and it’s been so much fun. Such a nice change of pace. It’s always interesting to me what kinds of intimate details women are able to share w/ each other.

Oh! Tomorrow I have jury duty!! I don’t think I’ll survive voir dire, but part of me wants to. I’m endlessly fascinated by the U.S. legal system and would enjoy playing a tiny role in it. But the attorneys will probably look at my background – college educated, minor in law – and kick me out in the first round. Oh well, we’ll see what happens.

I changed the spelling of my name. When I was in college, it was easy for me to spell my name ‘Ali’. People saw me, and I am clearly a white girl. In my current line of work, I send out press kits, news releases, etc… and people only know me by that particular spelling. My uncommon last name doesn’t help. People don’t know if I’m a boy or a girl, or they think I’m a Muslim man. I got frustrated with all of the phone calls for Ali (as in Mohammad) and email for Mr. K. (as in my father), so I’ve changed the spelling to ‘Allie’. You can’t confuse that spelling unless you’re really an idiot. It’s taking some time to get used to, but in the past two weeks – since I’ve changed the spelling – there has been no confusion. Hooray!
